Overall, 2007 is a success. We enjoyed sixteen rounds of regional racing -- the most I can remember. Four race days were hosted at Aonia Pass, four at Thunder Valley, plus events at Savannah GA, Daytona Beach FL, Barberville FL, Screven GA, and Neeses SC. Larry Griffin & the Greenville Enduro Riders Association did a great job bringing the Thunder Valley track on line.
The expanded schedule and the new rule for qualifying appeared to positively impact attendance: last year we had 32 qualifiers -- this year 38. The 2007 edition of Southeast dirt track tallied 688 entries in 16 rounds, versus 566 entries in 10 rounds in 2006.
We saw close finishes in Classic 500 / 750, Sportsman 250, Sportsman 750 (ah, Charlie, if you'd only showed up for one more event ...), and Seventies Singles.
New riders and riders who returned after taking some time off from racing are well represented in the list of qualifiers (James Moncus, Thomas Cheever, Jerry Steele, Frank Lackey, John Ayscue, Claude Hartley, and Ken Steele).
And several riders raised their competitive levels significantly: James Moncus, Payton Prewitt, and Peter Borg.
The year end awards banquet will be held on January 19th, 2008 at Chateau Elan.
To qualify for the 2007 Southeast Series, you must ride in at least two non-National Southeast DT races, and you must ride on two different days. You cannot qualify by riding two races in one day, as was the rule last year.
